Position Overview

The Software Test Engineer is a Key Personnel position responsible for designing, developing, and executing the automated test strategy for the Modernization project. This role ensures that all application functionality is validated through repeatable, automated test suites integrated into the CI/CD pipeline before any code reaches production.

Location: Huntsville, AL

Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust background investigation

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain automated unit, integration, and end-to-end regression test suites achieving 90% code coverage and covering 95% of critical business functions per release.
  • Integrate all automated tests into the Jenkins/GitLab CI/CD pipeline, ensuring 100% of builds include automated test execution.
  • Enforce quality gates preventing any failed build from being deployed to production or production-like environments.
  • Integrate and maintain automated security scanning (e.g., SAST/DAST) and Section 508 accessibility scanning in the pipeline with zero critical violations.
  • Develop and maintain the Automated Deployment Plan documenting CI/CD pipeline maturity, at minimum 30 days before first production deployment.
  • Track and manage defects in Digital.ai, ensuring <5% of total defects reach production and 100% of defects are tracked to resolution.
  • Collaborate with developers and the Product Owner to define acceptance criteria and clarify user story requirements before development begins.

Create and maintain documentation specifying which tests are included in the automated pipeline.

  • Support load and stress testing to validate the system supports 300–500 concurrent users without degradation.
  • Participate in sprint ceremonies including planning, demos, and retrospectives, providing quality metrics in Sprint Summary Reports.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; equivalent experience accepted.

Required Qualifications

3+ years of experience in software test engineering with a focus on test automation.

Proficiency in one or more automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, NUnit, xUnit).

Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, or equivalent).

Familiarity with containerized application testing in environments such as OpenShift or Kubernetes.

Strong analytical skills with ability to identify edge cases and produce comprehensive test coverage.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with security scanning tools (SonarQube, Veracode, OWASP ZAP) in CI/CD pipelines.

Experience with Section 508 accessibility compliance testing tools.

Familiarity with NIST SP 800-53, FedRAMP, and DevSecOps practices.

Experience testing complex web-based case management or federal law enforcement systems.

ISTQB certification or equivalent.Experience with performance/load testing tools such as JMeter or Gatling.
